Free WiFi at Thailand's main airports

Free WiFi will be available in all corners of six major airport terminals from April, Airports of Thailand (AoT) Plc said on Wednesday.

WiFi is already available at Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Chiang Mai, Mae Fah Luang in Chiang Rai, Phuket and Hat Yai but the service is limited to designated areas.

AoT chairman Sqn Ldr Sita Divari said the signal will blanket all areas at the six airports starting in April.

"It will boost the potential of AoT airports to international standard and improve services to passengers,'' the airports chairman said.

The six airports run by AoT handle about 88 million local and foreign passengers every year, with Suvarnabhumi, Phuket and Chiang Mai attracting the most air travellers.

AoT had worked with True Corporation in introducing the WiFi service. Each user would be limited to two hours, he said. The service would run at a maximum speed of 10 megabytes per second, the chairman said.

The service is under a five-year agreement between AoT and True worth 620 million baht.

Free Wifi has become an essential service at all major airports around the globe.

Other local airports are administered by the Civil Aviation Department except Samui in Surat Thani, Trat and Sukhothai, which are operated by Bangkok Airways.
